2013/2014 Raider Cheerleaders

||All cheerleaders support interscholastic athletic events.|
||Participants must meet eligibility requirements of both KSHAA and SMSD. Try out in April/early May.|

Description: Pacesetters, the junior and senior drill team, perform at Football games, festivals, parades, basketball games, and the Extravaganza.
Requirements: All junior and senior women.
Meetings and Events: Practices are are from 6:45 to the beginning of second hour.
Cost: Fees are assessed for equipment, use of uniforms, and materials the dancers will need for the season. In the event the team attends a summer camp, additional fees will be assessed. The team booster club may provide assistance for families who are in need of financial assistance.
Southettes Varsity Color Guard
Description: The Southettes support the school throughout the year by performing at football games, basketball games, pep assemblies, parades, competitions and Extravaganza. The group performs using a variety of equipment such as flags, prop rifles, hoops, and other props.
Requirements: All female students are eligible. Tryouts are held in early February. The group is limited to 40 members.
Meetings and Events: The season lasts the entire school year. Practices are 1st hour with some before and after school or on weekends.
Description: The Southlanders are the freshmen, sophomore and junior drill team. During first semester Southlanders participate in the Overland Park Parade, perform in the talent show, and join the cheerleaders on the track for two or three home football games. Second semester activities include Basketball games and the Extravaganza.
The group is limited to 42 participants.
Requirements: All freshmen, sophomore and junior women are eligible for tryouts in January or February.
Meetings and Events: Southlanders is a second semester class with a few first semester performances.
Rocky the Raider Mascot Squad
Description: Will perform at athletic and other events at SMS and in the community.
Requirements: Open to Sophomore, Juniors and Seniors. Tryouts are during the spring semester.
Meetings and Events: Will perform at athletic and other events at SMS and in the community.
Description: Pep Club is an organization that encourages support of the school's athletic teams. Pep Club is responsible for the Bon Fire every fall.
Requirements: All students are eligible.
Meetings and Events: All school sporting events and school assemblies.
Interesting Facts: Cost: $10 to join - which includes a T-shirt and preferential seating at pep assemblies.
