The Shawnee Mission South Foundation is a not-for-profit Kansas corporation that manages a donor fund which has been established with the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation (SMEF). The SMEF was established by the Shawnee Mission School District in 1989 to "provide all Shawnee Mission School District students innovative opportunities to help them reach their full potential and become productive, valued members of the community." The SMEF is a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. All donations made to it are tax-deductible. The Shawnee Mission South Foundation has entered into a written agreement with SMEF to administer donated funds. The governing board of the SM South Foundation is responsible for recommending disbursements of funds from the South Foundation. All donated funds shall be made payable to the Shawnee Mission South Foundation and will be directly deposited to the SMEF bank account. Fund-raising expenses will be paid from the funds in the SM South Foundation fund.
