Curriculum - Program of Studies

High schools in the Shawnee Mission School District provide a premiere education with a dynamic range of innovative pathways and programs to meet the individual needs of all learners. Driven by a college and career-ready focus and anchored by the 21st Century academic standards, SMSD high schools foster a collaborative and engaging educational environment in which all students learn at high levels. Students drive their educational experience through an Individual Plan of Study, a robust and collaborative tool within the Advisory Program which empowers students to research college and career options in order to better tailor their high school coursework to match their post-secondary goals. Shawnee Mission offers groundbreaking programs to support these individualized plans, including SMSD Signature Programs, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, College Now options, and Project Lead the Way (PLTW). Each of the district's high schools cultivates a safe and welcoming culture built on a rich and storied tradition in academics, the arts, activities, and athletics. SMSD high schools also provide an inclusive space for students to maximize their potential for post-secondary success.
