Bill McDonald
Baseball - Head Coach
"Bill McDonald was the first baseball coach in the history of Shawnee Mission South High School. He has a legacy of developing young men into great players who excelled beyond their expectations indicated by the Raiders winning Kansas State Championships in 1975, 1979, 1981, and 1985. Known as an uncompromising fundamentalist, Coach McDonald's teams were known for their tenacious grit, having a "never say die ''attitude, and for competing until the last out. Not only was Coach McDonald a great coach, he was also a respected teacher who used coaching baseball to help develop the character of his players. His philosophy was to teach young men about life through learning the game of baseball. It is fitting that Coach McDonald be honored with the first group of coaches inducted into the Shawnee Mission South Raider Athletic Hall of Fame."
