Dan Christie

Baseball - Class of 1981

"Dan Christie exemplified toughness and determination, channeling his hard-nosed attitude into an outstanding baseball career. With a lifetime batting average of .423, Dan earned three varsity letters, served as team captain, and received all-league awards and state all-star honors. Over forty years later, he still holds South baseball records for season home runs, career home runs, season triples, and career RBIs.

A skilled and dedicated third baseman, Dan demanded excellence from himself and inspired the same in his teammates. He helped foster a team culture where players “loved one another and fought for one another.” In his senior year, his team overcame adversity to defeat SM East and claim the state championship in dramatic fashion—one of two state titles during his career (1979, 1981). Dan’s approach to the game reflects Coach MacDonald’s timeless advice: “Think about the other guy; not always about yourself.”

Dan’s dedication to South didn’t end with his playing days. Along with his brothers—Bob, Dave, Mike, and Joe—he left a legacy as a proud Raider. As a founding member of the Shawnee Mission South Foundation, Dan has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to enrich the lives of students and staff, ensuring a positive experience for all who walk these halls. His commitment is further reflected in his trust in South to educate his own children, Dylan and Taylor, both of whom enjoyed remarkable athletic careers.

Dan Christie is a true steward of the South community, embodying the Raider spirit. He bleeds green and gold, and a Raider he shall always be."
