Lisa Plummer
Basketball - Class of 1977
"Lisa Plummer was the first great girls' basketball player at Shawnee Mission South. In 1975, Lisa joined the Lady Raiders for South's inaugural season of the program. She had an immediate impact on the program and the onset of women's athletics at Shawnee Mission South. In her junior and senior seasons, she led the Lady Raiders to the Sunflower League Championship and State Basketball tournaments. In her two years as a Lady Raider, she earned several school records. Her season rebounding records of 311 in 1977 and 286 in 1976 are still records today. She was All-Sunflower League both years and played in the Kansas East/West All-Star game her senior year. Lisa's athletic prowess was not limited to basketball. She was a multi-sport athlete that excelled at volleyball and track and field. She still holds South's girls' high jump record of 5'5", which she set in 1977. As a senior, she lettered in 3 sports. She was a member of Student Council, National Honor Society, and was an Honor Roll student. She played with the same size basketball as the boys, in contrast to current day in which the girls use a smaller ball to enhance shooting and scoring. Though today's opportunities for girls to train and play have expanded, Lisa's accomplishments have stood the test of time. Her inherent talents were displayed without years of coaching and opportunities that today's athletes enjoy. After graduating from Shawnee Mission South, Lisa went on to play basketball at the University of Missouri, leading the Tigers to the 1978 Big Eight Championship. She was known as a monster defensive player and a great rebounder. Her continued pursuit of excellence and her motivation to succeed was clearly demonstrated through her success at the University of Missouri. Achieving at the highest level at everything she did, it is only fitting that Lisa join the hallowed halls of the Raider Athletic Hall of Fame. Welcome Lisa – you are now where you belong."
