Scott Luschen

Wrestling - Class of 1978

"Scott Luschen is remembered as the greatest wrestler in the history of Shawnee Mission South High School. He was a three-time State Champion at three different weight classes and a three year Sunflower League Champion at a time when high schools were only three years long. His career record is 59-7, which is misleading because during his time, athletes only wrestled about 20 times per year. For many matches, Scott would move up or down a weight class to be able to wrestle the best wrestler from the other team. He only wanted to measure himself against the best, and he did so. He completed his senior year at 22-0. His record that year qualified him for the United States All-Star Team, and he was the only Eastern Kansas wrestler to ever win three straight State Championships. His legacy for the wrestling program at Shawnee Mission South and for the school is unmatched. It is fitting that Scott Luschen is the first Shawnee Mission South Raider wrestler inducted into the Hall of Fame."
